According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 48 million people get food poisoning each year. Food poisoning is contracted when people eat food that has been contaminated with harmful pathogens such as viruses or bacteria. Some foods are more prone to causing food poisoning than others, especially if they have not been correctly stored, prepared or cooked.
